The lunar North Node is one of the two points where the Moon's orbit crosses the Sun's path (the ecliptic). It is not a celestial body but a mathematical point — yet one of the most significant in the chart.
In modern astrology, it represents the direction of growth: the territory to explore, the qualities to develop, what requires effort but is nourishing. Its sign and house describe the axis of development for the life.
It is always paired with its opposite, the South Node, at 180°.
In Hellenistic astrology, the North Node is called Anabibazon ("the one who ascends") or simply the dragon's head (☊). It is considered benefic: planets in conjunction with it are generally favored, and the encounters and situations tied to its sign tend to be constructive.
Eclipses always occur near the axis of the Nodes — this is what makes this axis particularly sensitive to transits and progressions involving the luminaries.
