Understanding today’s sky

The astrological sky of the day keeps changing: the Moon changes sign roughly every two days and phase throughout the month, planets form and dissolve aspects with one another, and some go through periods of apparent retrogradation. This page brings these three markers together, recalculated automatically, with no birth data required.

This is the same data an astrologer checks daily: the Moon’s exact position, current retrogrades, and exact aspects — the precise instants when the angle between two planets reaches its exact value, traditionally considered the most sensitive moment of the aspect.

By entering your birth chart, the “My Sky” view connects this sky of the moment to your natal chart: the natal house the Moon is crossing, and the day’s exact aspects to your own planets.

Where these calculations come from

Planetary positions rely on the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference astronomical ephemeris library, exact to the arcsecond. The page is recalculated at most once an hour server-side — the same content is served to every visitor during that window, keeping it fast to load while staying up to date.

No astrological rule is invented: the orbs of the major aspects, the breakdown of lunar phases, and the retrograde windows follow the standard conventions of Western astrology, the same ones used for the birth chart.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the Moon's phase change every day?
The Moon travels through the zodiac in about 27.3 days and completes a full cycle of phases (new, waxing, full, waning) in about 29.5 days. Its position and illumination visibly change from one day to the next, making it the sky's fastest marker for tracking the astrological mood of the moment.
What is a retrograde planet?
Seen from Earth, a planet sometimes appears to move backward in the zodiac — a perspective effect related to relative orbital speeds, not an actual change of direction. Mercury goes retrograde about three to four times a year, planets farther out less often. In astrology, a retrograde traditionally invites revisiting, slowing down, or revising the area governed by the planet concerned.
What are the day's "exact aspects"?
An aspect is a precise angle between two planets (conjunction, square, trine...). Most stay active for several days within a tolerance orb, but each aspect reaches an instant where the angle is exact to the degree — this peak, calculated to the minute by the Swiss Ephemeris, is what's listed here, sorted by time.
Is this information the same for everyone?
The sky of the day (lunar phase, retrogrades, aspects between planets) is identical for every visitor at a given instant — it's astronomy, not personal data. By entering your birth chart, the page can additionally show which house of your chart the Moon is crossing and the day's exact aspects to your own planets (the "My Sky" view).
Does this page predict the future?
No. It describes an astronomical situation — real positions and angles at the moment of consultation — and the symbolic reading traditionally associated with it. No event-based prediction is made: the page indicates a mood trend, not a coming fact.
